The cold weather has set in and you’re going to want something to keep you warm through those cold days and nights. Hot chocolate and other hot drinks are a good way to warm up, which is why we’re sharing some delicious hot chocolate recipes in this week’s The Element Apartment Homes Blog! You don’t need to head out to your local coffee shop for a delicious mug of hot chocolate anymore, you can make these from the comfort of your own Mt. Prospect, IL home.

Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1/4 cup half and half

  • 1/4 cup milk chocolate chips

  • 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter

  • 1/4 cup mini marshmallows


Combine your love of peanut butter with the delicious taste of hot chocolate with this great recipe! Though the recipe calls for one tablespoon of creamy peanut butter, you can adjust the amount to suit your preferences!

Gingerbread Hot Chocolate

  • 4 cups milk

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup white sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

  • whipped cream for topping


Gingerbread is a traditional holiday treat, and can often be eaten with a mug of hot chocolate, so it makes sense that these two flavors would combine for a great drink to warm you up! Try it out today. 

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

  • 2 cups of milk

  • 2 cups of heavy cream

  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups of semi sweet chocolate chips

  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract

  • Whipped cream

  • Crushed candy cane
